Staff Profile
Kaiti Shelton
Kaitlin "Kaiti" Shelton is a board-certified music therapist servicing Benjamin E. Mays and the Online Elementary School. She joined SPPS in 2022. Prior to moving to Saint Paul she completed a school-based internship with an emphasis on inclusion in Cleveland, Ohio, and spent 4 years providing music therapy services to children and adults with developmental disabilities at a center in Indiana. This is her 7th year of being a music therapist.
Since starting her work in Saint Paul Public Schools, Kaiti has completed her master's degree in music therapy from Indiana University Indianapolis and neurologic music therapy training. She continues to seek out professional development and growth opportunities to better serve students in ASD/DCD classrooms, early childhood special ed, and in the online settings. Kaiti's philosophy of therapy centers around the idea that all children have strengths, ideas, and creativity. She strives to make music therapy class or session times meaningful, playful, and relational to support development of social/emotional skills, compliment pre-academic or academic concepts taught in class, and increase student engagement and interaction.
When not in school, Kaiti enjoys singing with One Voice Mixed Chorus, taking in musical theater or occasionally music directing, biking, swimming, doing improv comedy, and spending time with family and friends.
