3rd Grade Art

Third Grade Art Makers studied inventions in their "Where We Are in Place and Time" IB unit. In Art, we created patent drawings for Artists' original invention ideas and studied an invention that impacts us every day: paper! We used our work to interrupt the waste cycle - turning old paper scraps into brand new, beautiful pieces of handmade paper!

Third Grade Artists studied the work of Faith Ringgold and read her award winning children's book Tar Beach (1991). Students chose their own stories to tell in a story quilt inspired artwork. In person, we learned learned the running stitch, seed stitch, and satin stitch - using yarn to create their visual narratives on burlap. In our VLS class, artists used a variety of materials and lots of carefully chosen details to tell their stories in a way that all can see! See our stories in the images below!
