Science
OVERVIEW
Hello Mays Scientists and Families,
My name is Allyson Schwinghammer and I am excited to say this will be my third year teaching Science at Benjamin E Mays. Before Mays, I received two degrees in Education at the University of Minnesota. I’ve lived in Saint Paul all my life and am so happy that I get to teach children right here in my own city.
I have learned so much teaching science to our scholars! Together we practice asking questions and defining problems, we use models, we plan and carry out investigations, we analyze our data together in order to construct explanations and communicate our thoughts using academic language. Across the course of the year, we learn about phenomena from the physical sciences, life sciences and earth and space sciences. My favorite part of Science is the practice of working together in teams and exploring the natural world around our school.
I am very much looking forward to this year, I encourage you to come check us out! My door is always open and your curiosity for your child’s education is always appreciated. If you have any questions about Science at Mays, don't hesitate to reach out to me at
