RESTORATIVE PRACTICES
What is restorative practices?
Restorative Practices are based on principles and processes that emphasize the importance of positive relationships as central to building community and restoring relationships when harm has occurred.
You can read more about SPPS Restorative Practices in the Saint Paul Public School District.
OPENING & CLOSING CIRCLES
Every morning, classrooms hold opening circles to build a positive community. Each student is given an opportunity to share and have their voice heard. At the end of the school day, classrooms also hold a closing circle to reflect on the day. This is part of building a positive classroom community.
GREEN ROOM
At Benjamin E. Mays, we have a space called the "Green Room" for our students and staff. We implement the Zones of Regulation to understand our feelings and emotions. When students are feeling disregulated, teachers are able to send students down to the "Green Room." It is a safe space where students and staff are able to release energy and/or calm down to reset themselves.
